MEC Mbalenhle Cleopatra Frazer is a seasoned educator with 15 years of teaching experience. She has held several leadership positions in both the African National Congress and the ANC Women’s League.
She holds a Diploma in Education from the Rand Afrikaans University and a Further Diploma in Education from the University of Pretoria. In 2003, MEC Frazer graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) from the University of Zululand. In 2015 she completed her Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from University of Witwatersrand. She also holds a Master of Commerce in Leadership from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, which she obtained in 2021.
Between 1994 and 1998 she worked as an educator at Emangweni Primary School. In 1999 she was appointed as the Head of Department responsible for languages at Bonokuhle High School, a position she held until 2003. In 2004 she moved to Weenen Combined School, where she served as the deputy principal until 2008.
She was appointed as the principal for Lyndhurst Primary School in 2009, a position she held briefly before her deployment to the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in the same year. In the Legislature, MEC Frazer chaired the Public Works Portfolio Committee from 2009 until August 2022. She was appointed as the MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal on 11 August 2022.
MEC Frazer’s extensive leadership experience includes being a former SADTU regional sports, arts culture convener in Northern Natal region and SADTU Provincial Gender convener for KwaZulu-Natal.
