THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
The main purpose of the Department of Education is to provide opportunity for all the people in the Province to access quality education and training that will improve their position and life and to contribute to the advancement of a democratic culture in the Province.
The function of the Department of Education is to Provide Curriculum Management and Delivery, Institutional Development Support, Financial Services and Corporate Management services.
THE MEMBER OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL FOR EDUCATION
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: OFFICE OF THE MEC (HEAD OF MINISTRY)
PURPOSE: The Head of Ministry (HoM) is to provide services to the MEC.
FUNCTIONS: The HOM’s responsibility is the provision of core staff function to the MEC, the facilitation of public participation and community liaison services for the MEC.
DIRECTORATE: OFFICE OF THE MEC
PURPOSE: The directorate is to provide core staff functions to the Office of the MEC.
FUNCTIONS: Managing the workflow in the office. Maintaining a due date control system and monitor and follow up matters where due dates were not met, provide support services to the MEC with regard to the Legislature, EXCO and other meetings, ensure that the documents flowing to the MEC meet the required standards, provide a service with regard to the questions in the Legislature and Parliament. Provide secretarial services to management meetings of the MEC, manage the diary and “Hotline services” of the MEC.
DIRECTORATE: PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND COMMUNITY LIAISON
PURPOSE: Facilitate participation and community liaison services to the MEC.
FUNCTIONS: To advise on, promote and monitor the imbalances of targeted groups, including, gender, youth and disability. Advise on, promote and monitor the protection of rights and children. Guide and/or manage the implementation of any projects assigned by the MEC and to promote the achievement of objectives prioritised by the MEC.
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT KZN EDUCATION
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: OFFICE OF THE HOD
PURPOSE: To render education support services.
FUNCTIONS: Office support to the Head of Department. Promote and facilitate inter- and intra-governmental relations, provide internal audit and risk management services.
DIRECTORATE: OFFICE OF THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
PURPOSE: To provide support to the Head of Department.
FUNCTIONS: To manage work and document flow in the office, maintain a due date control system and monitor follow up matters, co-ordinating Legislature and Parliamentary responses and the arrangement of for the tabling of documents in the legislature, provide secretarial services to the HOD’s management meetings, manage the diary of the Head Of Department and co-ordinate public liaison services.
DIRECTORATE: INTERGOVERNMENTAT RELATIONS SUPPORT
PURPOSE: Promote and facilitate inter- and intra-governmental relations.
FUNCTIONS: Co-ordinating departmental strategy on international relations and agreements e.g donor funding and co-operation agreements, provide support to the Head Of Department with regard to the Legislature, Standing Committees and Parliament, the Executive Council and Ministers , CEM and HEDCOM and Cluster meeting, promote public-private partnerships with the business sector and co-ordinate the implementation of cluster collaborative agreements.
DIRECTORATE: INTERNAL CONTROL AND RISK MANAGEMENT
PURPOSE: To provide internal audit and risk management services.
FUNCTIONS: Providing internal financial control services, including inspections as required. Provide risk management services, anti-fraud and ethics management, secretarial service to the audit committee and computer auditing services.
DIRECTORATE: STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT, MONITORING AND EVALUATION
PURPOSE: Provide strategic management, monitoring and evaluation support services.
FUNCTIONS: Compiling and submitting the annual strategic plan and consolidate the approved operational plans of the departmental. Prepare required documentation with regard to the strategic plan and progress with its implementation as required. The monitoring and evaluation of services at all levels, draft the departmental annual report and monitor service delivery in line with Batho Pele Programme.
BRANCH: CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT AND DELIVERY
PURPOSE: Provide curriculum management and delivery in the Province.
FUNCTIONS: Provide curriculum services for all phases, provide AET support services, examination and assessment and professional development programs.

PURPOSE: To provide curriculum services for all phases.
FUNCTIONS: provide curriculum services with regard to Grades 1-9 and Grades 10-12. Provide Early Childhood Development services, provide learning and teaching support material.

PURPOSE: To provide curriculum services for Grades 1 to 9.
FUNCTIONS: Participate in the national curriculum development. Develop provincial policies, guide-lines, learning programs and support materials to facilitate the implementation of the National Curriculum Statements. To promote curricula for specified languages not provided for in the curriculum.
DIRECTORATE: CURRICULUM GRADES 10-12
PURPOSE: To provide curriculum services for Grades 10-12.
FUNCTIONS: Participate in the national curriculum development. Develop provincial polices, guide-lines, learning programs, support materials to facilitate the implementation of National Curriculum Statements. Prescribe the Learning Support Materials, equipment and technology associated with Grades 10-12.
DIRECTORATE: EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELEOPMENT
PURPOSE: To provide early childhood development services.
FUNCTIONS: To align provincial policies, guide-lines, learning programs and support materials. Promote ECD in the Province.
DIRECTORATE: LEARNING AND TEACHING SUPPORT MATERIAL SERVICES
PURPOSE: To provide learning and teaching support material.
FUNCTIONS: The provision of learning and teaching support material services and the provision of administrative support services.
SUBDIRECTORATE: LEARNING AND TEACHING SUPPORT MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT:
PURPOSE: To provide learning and teaching support material services.
FUNCTIONS: The provision of professional advice on learning and teaching support material and the development of LTSM Management Plan, the development of LTSM Catalogues and the monitoring and evaluation of LTSM delivery at schools.
SUBDIRECTORATE: LEARNING AND TEACHING SUPPORT MATERIAL ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
PURPOSE: To provide administrative support services i.r.o LTSM.
FUNCTIONS: The provision of requisition services, placing of orders, the preparation of documentation for payments and ensure delivery of LTSM at service points.

PURPOSE: To provide adult education and training services.
FUNCTIONS: Align provincial policies, guide-lines, learning programs and support materials to facilities the National Curriculum Statements for AET, recommend the learning support materials, promote adult education in the Province.

PURPOSE: To provide quality assurance and assessment services.

FUNCTIONS: Develop policy on assessment for all education bands including AET, plan and manage the application of Continuous Assessment for all education bands including AET, plan and manage provincial examinations in line with the National Strategy for Learner Attainment, analyse test/examination results and develop intervention strategies thereof, render accreditation services, manage the examination and marking process for the National Senior Certificate and Adult Education and Training level 4.
DIRECTORATE: QUALITY ASSURANCE
PURPOSE: To provide quality assurance services.
FUNCTIONS: Determine learner performance for Quality Improvement, monitor and Evaluate education institutions in the processes of continuous improvement of standards and quality, evaluate and conduct internal/external whole school evaluations, maintain and provide accurate reliable and updated data on learner and institutional performance.

PURPOSE: To provide examinations administration services.
FUNCTIONS: The rendering of examination services the provision of logical and certification services, and the administration of the examination system.

PURPOSE: To administer Examination Systems.
FUNCTIONS: The co-ordination of NSC Examinations, co-ordination of AET and GEC Examinations and co-ordinate Senior Certificate Examinations.

FUNCTIONS: The co-ordination of candidates registration and controlling of examination entries, the processing of mark sheets, the issuing and controlling of schedules, monitoring of marking centre/ duties and the processing of results.

PURPOSE: To co-ordinate AET and GEC Examinations.
FUNCTIONS: The co-ordination of candidates registration, the processing of mark sheets and monitoring of marking centre duties, processing of results.

PURPOSE: To provide logistic and certification services.
FUNCTIONS: The rendering of logistic services, rendering of certification and the controlling of exam paper scripts.

FUNCTIONS: The handling of Budget and Expenditure control and handling of marking centre arrangements, co-ordination of transport and security for examination, handling of procurement of goods and services, processing of appointment of markers/moderators and Administrative Assistants. DIVISION: CERTIFICATION
PURPOSE: To render certification services.
FUNCTIONS: The managing of certification, co-ordination of combination results, issuing of confirmation letters, issuing of certificates, handling of documents and records management.

PURPOSE: To control examination question papers and scripts.
FUNCTIONS: The processing of question papers, printing and storing examination material, packaging and distribution of examination material, handling re-marks and re-checks of scripts and control of examination scripts.

PURPOSE: Develop and co-ordinate training programs in respect of educator continuous professional development services.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and co-ordinate training programs in respect of educator continuous professional development, conduct educator skills audit and maintain a database of qualification profile, liaise with institutions of higher learning w.r.t specialised development programs.
DIRECTORATE: MATHS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AND ICT
PURPOSE: To manage interventions to improve teaching in mathematics, science and technology.
FUNCTION: Develop and co-ordinate intervention programs for the promotion of maths, science and technology and monitor implementation thereof, promote internal and external interventions with regard to maths, science and technology, promote ICT related to education institutions (E-education).
DIRECTORATE: GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
PURPOSE: To provide management and governance services.
FUNCTIONS: Provide support services in respect of governing bodies, provide support with regard to independent schools and home schooling, promote development of schools and of community involvement, develop and co-ordinate school safety programs, manager learner affairs including disciplinary matters.
DIRECTORATE: EDUCATION LIBRARIES, INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY
PURPOSE: To promote education libraries, information and technology services (ELITS)
FUNCTIONS: Develop, maintain and facilitate implementation of policies and guidelines i.r.o ELITS, develop intervention programs and research latest practices with regard to functionality and school libraries, promote reading and integration of information skills into the curriculum, co-ordinate and monitor the QIDS-UP program, promote the establishment and functionality of education resource centres.
SUB-DIRECTOTRATE: SCHOOL LIBRARY DEVELOPMENT
PURPOSE: To develop intervention programs and research latest trends with regard to functionality of school libraries.
FUNCTIONS: Develop intervention programs in relation to school libraries, conduct research with regard to functionality of school libraries, classify and catalogue library material, co-ordinate mobile library service
SUB-DIRECTORATE: READING AND INFORMATION SKILLS
PURPOSE: To promote reading and the integration of information skills into the curriculum.
FUNCTIONS: Promote the integration of information skills into the curriculum, promote reading as a foundational skill for teaching and learning, promote ICT in school libraries.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: QIDS-UP
PURPOSE: To co-ordinate and monitor the QIDS-UP program.
FUNCTIONS: Facilitate the resourcing of school laboratories and libraries for effective teaching and learning, liaise with relevant stakeholders in ensuring learner competency in literacy and numeracy, develop and implement strategies to address the needs of schools in disadvantaged areas.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: EDUCATION RESOURCE CENTRES
PURPOSE: To promote the establishment and functionality of education resource centres.
FUNCTIONS: Promote resource sharing amongst cluster of schools, develop, monitor and evaluate relevant programs that support the implementation of curriculum, co-ordinate effective utilisation of education resource centres.
BRANCH: INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT
PURPOSE: To provide Institutional Development Support Services
FUNCTIONS: Co-ordinate district operational management, provide Social Enrichment programs, provide infrastructure planning and facilities management, provide rural inclusive education.
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: DISTRICT OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
PURPOSE: To render district operational management for all District Offices.
FUNCTIONS: Provide management and administrative support to Districts, provide all intervention strategies for quality improvement in teaching and learning, manage the operations of all strategic intervention task teams, assess schools’ functionality and advise the MEC on appropriate measures, co-ordinate the communication between Head Office.
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: SOCIAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
PURPOSE: To manage social enrichment programs.
FUNCTIONS: To promote of co-curricular services and social enrichment programms.

PURPOSE: To manage school feeding scheme.
FUNCTIONS: Oversee implementation of NSNP policies, control the appointment service providers, train and workshop SGB’s and SMT’s and district staff, evaluate the impact and efficiency of the program.

PURPOSE: To facilitate inclusion of co-operatives.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and maintain strategic guidelines for co-operatives, arrange financial support for co-operatives, facilitate partnership with Ithala Bank and Department of Economic Development, co-ordinate training and development of co-operatives, evaluate the impact of the impact of the project within local communities.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: NUTRITION GUIDANCE
PURPOSE: To oversee school nutrition education.
FUNCTIONS: Co-ordinate nutrition education, facilitates sustainable food, develop appropriate menus and recipes, promote environmental awareness campaign in schools, develop nutrition support material and develop review guidelines on food safety.

PURPOSE: To manage grant allocation.
FUNCTIONS: Allocate school feeding budget to schools, handling of school feeding applications, develop and maintain a provincial database, consolidate financial reports, control processing of applications and payments.

PURPOSE: To promote co-curricular services.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and promote youth and sports schools, develop and promote arts and culture in schools.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: YOUTH AND SPORTS
PURPOSE: To develop and promote youth and sports in schools.
FUNCTIONS: The interpretation and development of youth and sport policies, the networking, planning, and monitoring of various codes and sports, the managing of youth development and gender equality in schools, the conducting of research into new trends, the development and monitoring of sport programs in schools.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: ARTS AND CULTURE
PURPOSE: To develop and promote arts and culture in schools.
FUNCTIONS: The implementation and development of arts and culture policies, the planning and co-ordinating of arts and culture activities, the conducting of research on cultural diversity in schools, the conducting and development of workshops for Districts Co-ordinators.
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING AND DELIVERY
PURPOSE: To provide infrastructure planning and delivery services.
FUNCTIONS: Manage the planning of the provision, renovation and maintenance of the infrastructure of the Department, manage the infrastructure delivery programs of the Department, provide resource planning services, provide education management information services.
DIRECTORATE: INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING
PURPOSE: To manage the planning of the providing, renovation and maintenance of the infrastructure of the Department.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and commission department strategies, policies, procedures, norms and standards in relation to infrastructure, establish standard plans and specifications for departmental facilities, approve (education ralated) town planning development plans, administer the acquisition and disposal of land, prepare departmental infrastructure plans for prioritized projects, prepare briefs/scopes of work and cost estimates for infrastructure projects, co-ordinate infrastructure planning services for District Offices, plan and prioritize the construction, renovation and programmed maintenance of non-school buildings, co-ordinate delivery programs with other Government departments and parastatals, co-ordinate municipal integrated development plans with Districts, develop, manage and co-ordinate infrastructure disaster management plans.
DIRECTORATE: INFRASTRUCTURE DELIVERY
PURPOSE: To manage the infrastructure programs/agents of the Department.
FUNCTIONS: Prepare Infrastructure Programme Management Plans, manage Implementing agents’ infrastructure Programme Management Plans, manage the infrastructure delivery programmes of the Department, co-ordinate infrastructure delivery services to District Offices, manage and prepare programme delivery reports, monitor the infrastructure delivery budget , monitor quality and physical progress of infrastructure projects, provide technical advice and support on infrastructure projects.
DIRECTORATE: REASOURCE PLANNING
PURPOSE: To provide resource planning services.
FUNCTIONS: The calculation and allocation of funds to public ordinary schools via the Resource Targeting List, the application of procedures to deal with contestations , the calculation and allocation of funds to grade R and AET centres and inclusive education schools, the analysis and evaluation of allocation of section 21 functions to public ordinary schools and monitoring of the management of the functions, the allocation of subsidies to independent schools via the subsidy allocation table, dealing with no fee schools matters.
DIRECTORATE: EDUCATION MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SERVICE
PURSPOSE: To provide education management information services.
FUNCTIONS: Maintain and update EMIS and FETMIS information as prescribed, maintain a link between EMIS and PERSAL, compile reports and analysis of EMIS and FETMIS information after each survey and submit to management, gather other education related information from internal and external sources, compile reports and make it available to management, keep a register of all registered education institutions.
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: RURAL AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
PURPOSE: To manage rural and inclusive education.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and implement a coherent policy on rural and inclusive education in line with government’s policy on rural development, provide rural academic support, provide rural infrastructure support, manage inclusive education.
DIRECTORATE: RURAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT
PURPOSE: To provide rural academic support.
FUNCTIONS: Facilitate curriculum packaging for rural schools, facilitate the enrichment programs for rural schools clusters, liaise with NGO’s and Private Sector Organisations to extend skills programs for rural areas.
DIRECTORATE: RURAL INFRASTRUCTURES SUPPORT
PURPOSE: To provide rural infrastructure support.
FUNCTIONS: Evaluate and implement an infrastructure development program for rural schools in line with the integrated municipal economic plans, consolidation of unviable schools and the resolution of boarding schools, facilitate the provision of learner transport in rural areas, liaise with other stakeholders in the improvement of technology for rural schools.
DIRECTORATE: INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
PURPOSE: To manage inclusive education.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and implement policy, guidelines and standards for the delivery of inclusive education, promote inclusive education, co-ordinate the delivery of inclusive education key drivers; full service schools and special schools as resource centres, develop and maintain district support teams, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of inclusive education programs.

PURPOSE: To provide budget and expenditure monitoring services.
FUNCTIONS: Compile the budget of the Department, monitor budget and expenditure performance of various programs within the Department, conduct expenditure corrections and misallocated expenses for the Department, ensure reconciliation of captured budgets on BAS and the tabled budget, provide advisory and support services to Program and Responsibility Managers with the allocated funds, conduct quarterly annual budget performance reviews and reports, conduct virements and adjustment budget in terms of the PFMA, compile the IYM and other reports in line with legislative prescripts and report thereto.
DIRECTORATE: SALARY AND TAX MANAGEMENT
PURPOSE: To provide salary payments and tax management services.
FUNCTIONS: Process garnishee payments, control salaries and other payments services, manage suspense accounts relating to salaries, conduct salary related account reconciliations, manage, reconcile and report tax related transactions for the Department, provide on-going support to District managers.
DIRECTORATE: FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
PURPOSE: To provide salary payments and tax management services.
FUNCTIONS: Exercise transaction expenditure control, provide creditor payment services, provide revenue/ debtor collector/ recovery services, manage the suspense account in relation to creditor payments, conduct monthly and annual account reconciliations, manage the bank account regularly, prepare interim and annual financial statements for the Department.

DIRECTORATE: HUMAN RESOURCE SERVICES
PURPOSE: To provide human resource services.
FUNCTIONS: Provide HR planning and monitoring services, exercise established control, provide HR administration services and the implementation of post provisioning norms for Educators.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: HUMAN RESOURCE POLICIES, PLANNING AND MONITORING
PURPOSE: To provide human resource policies, planning and monitoring services.
FUNCTIONS: Develop policies, processes and procedures, human resource plan, monitor and report on progress, monitor consistent compliance with prescriptions and policies, monitor the implementation of Employment Equity.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: ESTABLISHMENT CONTROL
PURPOSE: To exercise establishment and PERSAL control.
FUNCTIONS: Exercise establishment control, provide PERSAL, statistical information and manage establishment record.
DIVISION: STATISTICS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS
PURPOSE: To provide statistics and information systems.
FUNCTIONS: The maintenance of a database for office base educators, public service staff and evaluated posts (JE).
DIVISION: ESTABLISHMENT UTILISATION
PURPOSE: To control the post establishment.
FUNCTIONS: The creation of posts and the conducting of establishment audits.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: HUMAN RESOURCE ADMINISTRATION
PURPOSE: To provide HR administration services.
FUNCTIONS: The administering of service conditions for Head Office based personnel, provide HR administration services for the SMS, compile and issue bulletins and vacancy advertisement, the managing of pension and home owner’s allowance services for Head Office based personnel, provide general HR administration services including HR Registry.
DIVISION: SERVICE CONDITIONS
PURPOSE: To provide services in relation to remuneration, service benefits and compensation.
FUNCTIONS: Provide services with regard to remuneration, services and compensation matters.
DIVISION: HUMAN RESOURCE
PURPOSE: To provide human resource provisioning services.
FUNCTIONS: Provide services with regard to the recruitment of staff, including compilation of draft bulletins, services with regard to filling posts and personnel registry services.
DIRECTORATE: PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
PURPOSE: To provide performance management services.
FUNCTIONS: Administer the application of the Integrated Quality Management System of school based Educators, manage and administer the implementation of PMDS for office based Educators, administer PMDS for PMDS for SMS (level 13 and above), administer the implementation of PMDS for public service employees (level 1-12), facilitate the payment of salary progressions.
DIRECTORATE: EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
PURPOSE: To provide employee relations services in order to promote labour peace.
FUNCTIONS: To provide labour relations services, dispute, grievance and discipline services.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: LABOUR RELATIONS
PURPOSE: To provide labour relations services.
FUNCTIONS: Provide support services for participation in the services of the ELRC and the Provincial Chamber of the ELRC, provide support services with regard to the departmental and provincial with regard to the GPSSBC, facilitate negotiations and consultations within approved mandates, promote and monitor labour peace.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: DISPUTES AND GRIEVANCE
PURPOSE: To provide disputes and grievance services.
FUNCTIONS: The handling of disputes and arbitration cases within approved mandates, facilitate the speedy conclusion of dispute cases and submit regular reports on progress, provide grievance resolution services within approved mandates and co-ordinate appeals.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: DISCIPLINE
PURPOSE: To provide discipline services.
FUNCTIONS: Facilitate effective co-ordination of disciplinary matters within the relevant legislative framework, monitor the activities of the prosecutors and presiding officers in relation to the roles that they fulfil within the appropriate line function, liaise with districts to ensure effective transmission of information and statistics with regard to discipline and co-ordinate appeals.
DIRECTORATE: HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
PURPOSE: To provide training and development for management and office-based personnel
FUNCTIONS: The rendering training and development services for office-based Educators, the co-ordination of Employee Assistance Programme, the provision of training for public service employees, the administering of bursaries and internships.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: TRAINGING AND DEVELOPMENT
PURPOSE: To provide training to office-based educators.
FUNCTIONS: The identification of training needs, the co-ordination of training, provision of career planning programmes, the co-ordination of service delivery improvement plan, conduct skills audit and maintain a skilled profile of office-based personnel.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME
PURPOSE: To provide an employee assistance programme.
FUNCTIONS: Develop internal policy for employee assistance, the co-ordination and promotion of employee assistance programmes and implement employee assistance services for Head Office personnel.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: TRAINING
PURPOSE: To provide training services for public services employees.
FUNCTIONS: Arrange and/or present induction training, management training and functional development programmes.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: BURSARY ADMINSSION
PURPOSE: To administer bursaries and internships.
FUNCTIONS: The development of bursary policies, administer the bursary scheme of the department and administer internships.
DIRECTORATE: ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
PURPOSE: To develop organisational strategy and ensure alignment of organisational structure to strategic plan.
FUNCTIONS: Provide organisation and establishment services, job evaluation and job description services, business process re-engineering support services, change management services and needs analysis in respect of office accommodation.
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT SERVICES
PURPOSE: To provide administrative management and publication services.
FUNCTIONS: Provide communication and publication services, information technology services, facilities management, auxiliary services and security services.
DIRECTORATE: COMMUNICATION AND PUBLICATION
PURPOSE: To provide media and communication services.
FUNCTIONS: Manage the communication policy and strategies, handle communication with the public media on behalf of the MEC and/or Top Management, manage imbizo’s and service delivery inspections by the MEC and integrate the Department’s communication activities at the Premier’s Co-ordination Forum.
DIRECTORATE: INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY
PURPOSE: To provide information technology services.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and maintain a Master Systems Plan, provide support services with regard to the Management of SITA contracts, provide IT/Security risk management services, provide computer support services including help desk services, maintain hardware and software stock registers.
DIRECTORATE: FACILITIES MANAGEMENT AND AUXILARY SERVICES
PURPOSE: To provide facilities management and auxiliary services.
FUNCTIONS: Provide records management services, facilities management, office support, occupational health and safety services.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: RECORDS MANAGEMENT SERVICES
PURPOSE: To provide records management services.
FUNCTIONS: Co-ordinate, develop and implement records classification systems and preserve system in all formats, develop and oversee the implementation of records management practices i.r.o management policy, registry procedure manual, monitor and ensure compliance of sound records management practices in the department i.r.o disposal programmes, physical care and protection records, control and monitor access to records within the Department.
SUBDIRECTORATE: FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
PURPOSE: To provide facilities management services.
FUNCTIONS: Manage the renting/letting of educational facilities including official houses, maintain a record of section 14 contracts, manage illegal occupation and cleaning of education sites in liaison with municipalities, co-ordinate structural maintenance of departmental buildings, develop and maintain a database of departmental buildings and lease agreements.
SUB-DIRECTORATES: OFFICE SUPPORT SERVICES
PURPOSE: To provide office support services.
FUNCTIONS: Manage office support i.r.o, telecommunication and reception, photocopying, cleaning, deal with payment of domestic accounts and manage Departmental transport.
SUB-DIRECTORATE: OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (OHS)
PURPOSE: To manage and monitor the implementation of the occupational health and safety practices in the Department.
FUNCTIONS: The development of OHS policies, the monitoring of the implementation of policies, the assessment of all facilities and administering of incidental reports and the management of OHS practices.
DIRECTORATE: SECURITY AND ADVISORY SERVICES
PURPOSE: To provide security and advisory services.
FUNCTIONS: Develop and maintain departmental security policies and guidelines, provide security co-ordination services, security investigation services, manage surveillance systems and provide building security guidelines for guarding and patrolling.
