The KZNDOE Handed-over Administrative Records and IT Equipment to the principal of Dr Macken Mistry Primary School.
The schools records housed in the Administration Building was affected by the recent Floods.
This is the work of the Ministers Task Team driven by EMIS, DBE and Head Office to assist schools affected by floods in their Administration of the School.
Included in the Hand-over were Financial Statements, SA-SAMS Backup Database, Laptop, Printer, Lever Arch Files, Folders for Staff and Educator Profiles, punchers and staplers, that were lost due to the floods.

The KZNDOE’s HoD, Mr Nkosinathi Ngcobo together with officials from Department of Basic Education and the EMIS Directorate handed over school records to Brettonwood High School, which were retrieved from SASAMS.
The Department Cares as one of its core values, therefore, the Department of Basic Education donated a laptop and printer, handed over by the HOD, Mr Nkosinathi Ngcobo as part of rebuilding the school administration, following the recent devastating floods of April 2022, which saw Brettonwood High School lose all their school records.

The Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga, visited KwaZulu-Natal to assess the extent of the damage caused by the floods and met with the KZN Provincial Education Department.
Minister Motshekga together with KZN Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu, the HOD, Mr Nkosinathi Ngcobo and senior officials held a briefing at Dokkies and thereafter, visited affected schools in the various districts.
The Ministerial Delegation conducted a walkabout of the schools damaged by torrential rains and floods.
At the last count 630 schools were affected, 101 inaccessible and 124 have suffered extensive damage.
It has been reported that 57 learners have been confirmed to be deceased while 5 are still missing. Rescue and recovery processes are still ongoing.
One educator and one food handler have also been reported to have passed away.

The KZN Premier, Mr Sihle Zikalala welcomes the Declaration of State of Disaster in KZN by President Cyril Ramaposa.
Members of the Provincial Executive visited various affected areas, help lead profiling of all affected families, quantify the damage to each affected and ensure immediate interventions through disaster management official.
The magnitude of the disaster is unprecedented and requires the provincial government, municipalities and social partners to be all hands on deck.
The provincial government is also mobilising resources to speed up the recovery of missing people.

The Development Bank of Southern Africa’s (DBSA) Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Dlamini together with MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Kwazi Mshengu and the Mayor of UMhlabuyalingana Local Municipality, Councillor, Mr T.S. Khumalo led the Hand-over Ceremony of a Pedestrian Bridge in Umkhanyakude.
The bridge, which was constructed as part of the DBSA’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme will serve to address infrastructure challenges in rural KwaZulu-Natal.
Furthermore, the bridge will enable communities from the Jozini and UMhlabuyalingana area to access education and health facilities.

The KZN MEC for Education, Mr Kwazi Mshengu, was the Special Guest Speaker at the SADTU Provincial Conference held at the Durban Station Conference Centre in Durban this morning.
The KZN MEC for Education, Mr Kwazi, in his address to the SADTU Provincial Conference paid tribute to all educators for protecting the future of the country against Covid-19, which at some stage forced Government to close down schools in the Province.
The MEC also spoke about the importance of a decolonised education.
"We need to spell out in no uncertain terms the features of this decolonised education and identify the roles that each stakeholder has to play.
The fact that we speak of a decolonised education is because of the fact that something went terribly wrong with our past" said MEC Mshengu, who also assured delegates that even if we live in a digital society ‘nothing will replace a teacher.’
The MEC said, "our schools are the centre of our work, hence the importance of the work of an educator."

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala has conveyed his sadness at the news of the passing of former Head of Department of Education in KZN Dr Enock Nzama.
Dr Nzama had recently retired following a lifetime of service to the education sector in the province.
"It is with great sadness and shock that we learned the news of Dr Nzama's passing, so soon after retiring as Head of Department of Education in our province," said Premier Zikalala.
"Dr Enock Vusumuzi Nzama spent his entire working life as an educator in various roles including as principal at Sivananda Technical High School in KwaMashu. As a teacher and district director Dr Nzama consciously produced outstanding learners who have since taken their places in society," said Premier Zikalala.
Dr Nzama started working for the Department of Education in 1983 as a teacher at Ohlange High School and later became principal at a number of schools in the province. He served the education department in many capacities including being Chief Education Specialist in 2001 and Director of Education provisioning in 2002.
In 2014 Nzama assumed the position of Deputy-Director General responsible for curriculum management and delivery. In October 2016 Dr Nzama was appointed Head of Department and had only recently retired.
"We have lost a pioneer and a doyen in education who distinguished himself as DDG and later as HOD, thus leading the charge and as the province we improved matric results in our province, " said Premier Zikalala.
“Dr Nzama was a gentlemen and a disciplinarian who was dedicated to improving the lives of the majority and who prepared thousands of young people for entry into adult life and to be outstanding citzens," noted Premier Zikalala.
“Our prayers and sincere condolences are with Dr Nzama's family and we pray for his family's peace and comfort as they go through this trying period, ” said Premier Zikalala.

The Honourable Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga visited Khaselihle Junior Primary School in Mandeni, Newcastle. The purpose of the visit was to meet with ECD practitioners to provide clarity on the ECD Function Shift to take effect from 01 April.
In the second session, the Minister engaged with the principals of the Amajuba District followed by a Q & A session.

The KZNDOE’S Acting HOD, Dr Barney Mthembu welcomed the Edendale Ladies Soccer Team, on behalf of the MEC for Education, Mr Kwazi Mshengu at the King Shaka International Airport in La Mercy, Durban.
The Pan African Schools Championship Games were played by schools' teams from six African countries namely: Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, South Africa, Senegal, Benin, and Ethiopia.
After a series of great performances by Edendale team (South Africa), they claimed the number two spot and received silver medals, losing 0-1 to Morocco in the finals.
As we celebrate the team’s success in the tournament, we are also proud to announce that 5 players have been called up to the National Team’s Under-17 squad to represent South Africa.

The KZN MEC for Education, the Honourable, Mr Kwazi Mshengu together with the Head of Department, Acting, Dr Barney Mthembu visited two ECD Centres at the Ashdown area in the Umgungundlovu District this morning.
The MEC after monitoring and conducting an oversight visit to two Community Based ECD Centres in the Ashdown area in the Umgungundlovu District, as part of the ECD Function Shift process, held a meeting with seven work streams members in the Boardroom at Education House, Anton Lambede Building.

The KZN MEC for Education the Honourable, Mr Kwazi Mshengu visited Dassenhoek High School, to give support to the traumatised learners and staff who were attacked by unknown knife and gunmen wielding thugs demanding money, cellphones and wallets.
In the standoff four learners were stabbed by the robbers who allegedly broke the fence to gain access into the school premises. The learners were hospitalized for stab wounds.

The KZN MEC for Education the Honourable, Mr Kwazi Mshengu visited Emzamweni High School to assess the storm damage caused by the floods.
The storm caused major damage to LTSM due to the heavy rains.
The MEC also visited Eastwood Secondary School to assess the storm damage and determine the state-of- readiness of the school on Wednesday.
