MEDIA INVITATION
Shaka Day Celebration – 27 September 2003
The people of the Province of KwaZulu-Natal will pay tribute to one of the
greatest heroes of Africa and the founder of the Zulu Nation (Ilembe eleq’amanye
amaLembe ngokuKhalipha, Inkosi uShaka KaSenzangakhona) on Saturday, 27 September
2003 at 09H00 at the KwaDukuza Recreation Grounds (Stanger), North of Durban.
The KZN Department of Education in collaboration
with all other stakeholders are planning the annual commemoration ceremony to
honour this great leader. King Shaka had all the attributes of a nation builder,
which includes intelligence, determination, strength of will, physique to
support it and outstanding leadership. The commemoration ceremony can be traced
back to 1932, when the Zulu nation, under the leadership of His Majesty King
Solomon kaDinuzulu, erected a memorial Statue in honour of King Shaka.
During his leadership, King Shaka enforced discipline,
instilled honesty in his subjects and heavily punished offenders who stole cows
or raped women. It is because of his great achievements and contributions that a
memorial service is held annually to honour this great leader, King Shaka.
An invitation is extended to the people of KwaZulu-Natal to
join amongst other dignitaries His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini, the Prince
of KwaPhindangene, the Leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party and Minister of Home
Affairs, Dr MG Buthelezi, The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr LPHM Mtshali and the
Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Narend Singh to commemorate the legacy of
a great hero. Transport has been arranged to transport people to KwaDukuza and
back. Trains will leave Umlazi and KwaMashu at 08H30 stopping at all stations
en-route KwaDukuza.
Members of the Media are invited to promote among the youth the outstanding
leadership qualities of an illustrious leader. All are welcome!
