School TV a Hit for Teachers and Learners

Rural schools recently had the good fortune to receive materials from Mr Julius Setenane representing the SABC Education and Outreach Programme. He handed over materials to Mbhasobheni Primary School to assist the Educators of the foundation and intermediate phase on how to use the school tv programme.

School TV is an initiative and a partnership between the National Department of Education and SABC in which the programmes that are broadcast are prepared according to the approved curriculum. Targeting the foundation phase and intermediate phase learners, the content covers five key learning areas defined by the curriculum.

The Principal of Mbhasobheni Junior Primary, Mrs N Zungu was ecstatic to receive the materials in the assembly of the learners which will be shared with neighbouring schools. The pack included posters, an educators resource book and a time-table which will assist educators to

  • implement the new curriculum
  • show how to use School TV to enhance learning and teaching
  • provide useful educational resources like lesson plans, posters and assessment tips.

School TV has a variety of programmes which could be used by educators to supplement their teaching. A year’s programme may be used to guide educators on which programmes are relevant or may be helpful to them. The School TV Helpline for educators is 086 22 22 086 and for learners is 086 22 22 005. Schools can request their free resource packs.
