MEDIA INVITATION
Five Schools to benefit Old Mutual R100 000.00
Maths and Science Sponsorship
Five schools with most improved results, without
specialised facilities in the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education will each receive R20 000.00 from the Minister of
Education and Culture, Mr Narend Singh. The Old Mutual R100 000.00
sponsorship is an incentive for under performing schools to make a
difference in the Maths and Science fields in the 2003 Senior
Certificate Examination, said Provincial General Manager of Old
Mutual, Mr DT Ngwenya.
Minister Singh’s first stop over will be
tomorrow, at Mpophomeni High School in the Pietermaritzburg Region,
Tuesday, 5 August 2003 at 09H00. Board Members of Old Mutual and
Senior Officials of the Department will accompany the Minister. The
School recorded a pass rate of 96.4 percent in the 2002 Senior
Certificate Examination, [SCE], a major improvement from 47% in the
2000 examination. This year the school aims for a 100 percent pass
in the 2003 SCE.
Details of Minister’s visit to the remaining
four schools will be communicated as soon as the dates and times are
confirmed. The four other schools that will benefit from the Old
Mutual Maths and Science Sponsorships are Mathunjwa High School in
the former Vryheid Region, Esizibeni Secondary School in the former
Durban South Region, Qophindlela High School, in the former
Ladysmith Region and Ngono High School, in the former Ulundi Region.
